The drop pit in stalls #24 and #25. When the time came for a steam locomotive to have tires or main axle bearings replaced, the drive wheels had to be removed. The engine pulled in over the drop pit and when the axles, drive rods, etc. were freed from the engine, the wheels were lowered into the pit by an elevator, and when lowered, the elevator traversed laterally, and then raised again to a track between the two stalls.
